Rainy Day Photoshoot in Amsterdam! - Carly Donaldson Photography

Rainy Day Photoshoot in Amsterdam!

Every couple wants a beautiful day for their engagement photo session, but even the best photographer can’t guarantee good weather. From rain to snow, likley rain if your reading this from The Netherlands, inclement weather can get in the way of your fun and keep you from getting the photos you really want.

So, what can you do when bad weather interrupts your engagement photoshoot plans?

As a professional photographer, I’ve run into plenty of bad weather days, and I’ve put together a few suggestions for how to deal with them.

Simply reschedule

There’s no adapting to some weather. If it’s pouring rain or there’s thunder and lightning, there’s no way to continue with your session unless you move your photos safely inside. If it is hazardous to travel or be outside, your best bet is to talk to your photographer about rescheduling to a different day.

But if the weather leaves room for a change of plans, there are plenty of ways you can adapt…

Dress for the weather

Believe it or not, engagement photos in the rain or snow can actually be incredibly fun and romantic. If an unexpected rainstorm appears the night before your engagement session, bundle up in your jacket and take some adorable photos cuddling under a clear umbrella. There are plenty of ways to turn bad weather to your advantage, and your photographer can help you come up with photo ideas that you will love.

Embrace the moment

Bad weather on your engagement session day is definitely disappointing, but it doesn’t have to be a deal-breaker. Your photographer has the expertise to work with the darker lighting to create some gorgeous images. The more you can relax and enjoy your time with your partner, the better your photos will turn out.

Take inside portraits

Not into standing in the rain? Ask your photographer to switch to an indoor session. You can visit some of your favorite places as a couple, like the coffee shop from your first date or a local museum you both enjoy. These images can help tell the story of your love and give you some truly unique photos to share with your friends and family.

Trust your photographer

Above all, remember that you hired your photographer because of their skill and expertise. They can help turn the dreariest weather into the loveliest images. Let them guide you through your photo session and use their talent and editing skills to create magic!
